Last day of training today, hiking around the Chalgrave Heritage Trail - then 4 days rest before we get the train to Cornwall on Thursday! (Taken with Instagram at The Plough Inn)
And… We made it! 3 days of hiking along the Pilgrim’s Progress -Thanks so much to everyone that’s donated so far… Next up; Cornwall! Full blog up later at http://barleygoeswalkies.tumblr.com (Taken with instagram)
Day 2 of traversing The Shire: Bilbo Baggins had 99 problems, but blisters weren’t one… (Taken with Instagram at Cranfield Village Green)
And we’re off! It’s no coincidence that this trail is sponsored by a footcare product… Oooft! (Taken with Instagram at Sundon Hills Country Park)
Crapping myself about tomorrow’s Pilgrim’s Progress adventure!
I’ve never hiked this far before, ever.
It’s going to be 3 days of solid torture, but still, it should put us in good stead for the 100+ miles we’ll be hiking in Cornwall this coming June :)
I’m not a religious man, but i’m fascinated to find out more about the places in John Bunyan’s original piece of Christian literature, not least ‘The Hill Difficulty’ and ‘The House Beautiful’. Hoping to get a decent photo of Catherine Of Aragon’s Cross too.
Either way you look at it, it’s a fascinating and hugely significant piece of English Literature, so i’m keen to learn more about it:

And it could be relatively poignant attempting this over Easter Weekend too, who knows?

Whilst i get everything together for my ridiculous 3 day hike along the John Bunyan trail this Easter weekend, here’s some pictures from a recent jaunt around the Ashridge Estate in Hertfordshire, UK - a beautiful part of the country if you ever get a chance to explore it.
This one was about 14km - dont forget to check out my Just Giving donation page!

Managed to get an 18km hike around part of The Ridgeway and Icknield Path (two ancient British footpaths) in today…
Took in most of Whipsnade Zoo as well as Ivinghoe Beacon - glorious weather and some of the best views in the country always help you around the course!
Here’s a map of exactly where we went:
